More on the Domestic Yearlong Program
Program Outline
The AJWS Volunteer Summer Domestic Yearlong Program is designed to ensure that the summer is not an isolated experience in participants' lives. AJWS Volunteer Summer participants continue to meet regularly over the course of the academic year, developing the tools to integrate the lessons of the summer into life at home.
The domestic piece of the program is comprised of:
- a series of weekend educational retreats in the United States (All travel, accommodations and meals are included in the overall program cost)
- an active list serve and online community
- regional gatherings to target local opportunities for global justice work
- public presentations about the summer experience or current advocacy campaigns (everything from brown bag lunches to slideshows, to exhibiting photos or artwork, to teach-ins, speeches, etc.)
- article writing (for campus and/or community newspapers and blogs; AJWS' public relations department can assist with article placement)
- consistent volunteer service with an organization throughout the year (this includes a wide array of activities from direct service to advocacy)
- recruitment for the following year's program
AJWS makes available small grants and other resources to support participant initiated projects during the Domestic Yearlong Program.
The Domestic Yearlong Program is an integral part of the AJWS Volunteer Summer experience and all participants are required to participate. However, if you plan on studying abroad in the year following the AJWS Volunteer Summer, it will not necessarily detract from your application.
