Organization

Mujeres de Anta

Mujeres de ANTA was founded in 2007 by 12 indigenous women from the Cusco region who were forcibly sterilized during the Fujimori regime (1996 to 2000). The founding members’ cases, heard before the Inter-American Court, are considered emblematic of this struggle. The organization is an independent offshoot of ANTA, a grassroots organization led by and for indigenous women, which seeks to promote access to and obtain the highest standards of healthcare based on the right of informed consent.
